Course Description
This course (17 sessions, 3hr each week, January- May) will provide students with test-taking strategies required for the medical school entrance exam. The course will include a skill set to improve question-solving abilities. Sample questions will be discussed in class, and practice for subject-specific tests and full-length tests will be provided online. Review guides and notes for each topic will also be posted online, which needs to be reviewed before each session. Instructors include subject-specific college professors and experienced MCAT/DAT/OAT takers. Course format involves synchronous online sessions with the instructors on zoom.
Learning Objectives
- Demonstrate content mastery across the different sections of the MCAT (Biological and Biochemical Foundations of Living Systems; Chemical and Physical Foundations of Biological Systems; Psychological, Social, and Biological Foundations of Behavior; and Critical Analysis and Reasoning Skills).
- Apply foundational scientific concepts (biology, biochemistry, general chemistry, organic chemistry, physics, psychology, and sociology) to solve integrated problems in biomedical contexts.
- Interpret and analyze scientific data, figures, and experimental designs presented in passage-based and standalone questions.
- Strengthening critical reasoning and reading comprehension through systematic practice with complex texts and argument structures.
- Employ effective test-taking strategies, including pacing, process of elimination, and passage-mapping techniques, to maximize accuracy and efficiency.
- Integrate knowledge across disciplines to address questions requiring cross-sectional reasoning and synthesis of information.
- Reflect on progress and readiness by interpreting practice exam results and setting strategies for continued improvement leading up to the official exam.
Target Learner
This course is for pre-medical (advanced undergraduates or post-baccalaureate) students who are preparing to apply to medical and DO schools and need structured preparation for standardized entrance exams such as MCAT.
