Job Search Strategies

Course Description

This course develops the practical skills learners need to run an effective job search and present their experience in terms an employer recognizes. Participants research target occupations and pay, identify transferable skills from work, volunteering, and coursework, and learn to back each skill with specific evidence. From there, they tailor a resume and cover letter to a real job posting, build a professional narrative and digital presence, and practice structuring interview answers around concrete examples. Applied tasks bring the strategies together: learners work through a branching interview scenario and evaluate a sample job offer.

By the end, participants will have job-ready application materials, greater confidence in interviews and salary conversations, and a clear process for moving from posting to offer.

Learning Objectives

  1. Identify realistic target occupations and salary expectations using national, state, and local wage data.
  2. Translate experience from work, volunteering, coursework, and other sources into skills supported by specific evidence.
  3. Build a tailored resume and cover letter aligned to a specific job posting.
  4. Develop a professional narrative and digital presence that supports an active job search.
  5. Structure clear, confident interview answers around real evidence.
  6. Navigate a job search from posting to offer, including application tracking, offer evaluation, and negotiation.

Target Learner

This course is designed for Job seekers at any stage, including recent graduates, career changers, and professionals re-entering the workforce, who want to strengthen their resume, application, and interview skills.
