Course Description
This course introduces learners to communication as a field of study and helps them decide whether it fits their interests and goals. Learners explore core communication concepts, contexts, and emerging trends, and examine how communication shapes relationships, organizations, media, and society. They investigate the career paths, work environments, and transferable skills found across communication fields, and practice strategic communication decisions, audience-appropriate tone and style, and journalistic writing in simulated real-world scenarios. Learners also map out a preparation strategy that includes networking, internships, portfolios, and campus resources, and they finish with a personal career preparation plan that connects their interests and strengths to specific communication areas and actionable academic and career goals.
